We still can't believe that Diablo 2 is getting a new lease on life more than two decades after its first release courtesy to Diablo 2: Resurrected.
In many ways, the current state of Diablo 2 is the best it's ever been. And the most recent patch for Diablo 2: Resurrected adds Terror Zones, a new end-game activity that should make getting to the highest levels and harvesting the greatest loot much simpler. However, you may be wondering, "How do you enable and use Terror Zones?" It is our sincere hope that we can be of assistance.
Complete Diablo 2: Resurrected on any difficulty with an online expansion character to unlock Terror Zones. Meaning, you have to kill Baal. If you've done this with any of your eligible characters before, they'll already be able to access the Terror Zone. Terror Zones, however, are opened on a character-by-character and difficulty-by-difficulty basis. Therefore, if you beat the game on Normal with a sorceress you made, you can only enter Terror Zones on Normal with that sorceress.
Terror Zones can be used for the first time with a character the following time a game is created with them on a difficulty you have previously beaten. Once you've been dropped into town, you can check the Chat Box to find out which part of town is now under Terrorist attack. The location being Terrorized will change every hour, and you may find out more about it in the chat box. The closest waypoint to a Terrorized zone will now be highlighted in purple text, and there will be a new icon displayed next to it, all thanks to the improved waypoint system and buy D2R items.
The name of the region you've entered will be shown, along with the phrase "Terrorized" in scare quotes underneath it. If you go there, expect to face adversaries at least two levels above your own, and maybe as many as five levels above your level if you run into Champions or Uniques. However, there are level limits in place for these zones at each difficulty setting. The maximum level against common foes on Normal is 45, whereas the maximum against champions and uniques is 48. These caps may be found at 71, 73, and 74 on Nightmare. And the corresponding numbers on Hell's scale are 96, 98, and 99.
Different icons appear next to the names of scared beasts, the environment's lighting is altered, and a distinct audible cue lets you know you've entered a Terror Zone. The sum of these details elevates the prestige of Terror Zones.
